Disabled rider questions subway access

Michael Harris was an hour late to his own press conference yesterday. The topic was how the Metropolitan Transportation Authority addresses the needs of disabled subway riders, and Harris — the wheelchair-bound executive director of the Disabled Riders Coalition — was delayed by three broken elevators he encountered en route to City Hall.


Three broken elevators?

These elevators are critical for PWDs to get around in New York, yet, they have no way to even know if they will be working.

The Metro article reiterates a problem that Paul mentioned in his YouTube video blog a while back.

ABC.com: American Inventor - Home Page

There is a guy on "American Inventor" on ABC that has invented a lighter wheelchair that he can dis-assemble and load into the car himself. His name is Michael and he's a finalist. I don't know why the finalists aren't listed on the site, but they aren't. The episodes are on the site though, so you can watch today's episode to see his pitch.

Hopefully, he will go all the way, but he's got a battle ahead, because there are some other great ideas in the competition.
